Backcountry Ski Touring across the Andes

Skiing the North Patagonia Volcanoes
If resort skiing gives you plenty of vertical a day and the freedom to swoosh down the slopes, it does not give you the freedom of the hills — the freedom to spot, from across a valley, a thousand-metre chute full of fresh snow with nary a track in sight, and then to arrive at the top to savour the first descent.
That kind of freedom, beyond the boundary ropes and away from the crowds, is found only in the Backcountry Ski.
Argentina and Chile have wonderful terrain for backcountry skiing (also randonee), particularly in the Lake Region of Patagonia.
Argentina has followed the European model: instead of chilly camping in the snow, the summer trekking trails and huts are used in winter by touring skiers.
Depending on skiers' abilities, they can follow these trails or break their own in the mountains surrounding the lakes, including to the summits of the many volcanoes in the area.
Backcountry skiing is not simply about skiing the best and greatest number of runs. It is off-piste skiing (away from marked trails), but it is also not accessed by chairlift. You have to work to earn your turns. The scenery, the solitude and the self-reliance are major attractions.

Two countries across the Andes
We have different trips for winter and spring, within Argentina and Chile, choosing the highest and nicest volcanoes of the area around the Lake District and Northern Patagonia area.
There are many different volcanoes along the Andes, we can customize your trip visiting the ones that you will love to climb up. Lonquimay, Llaima, Copahue and Caviahue area, Lanín, Villarica, Choshuenco, Casa Blanca and Osorno are some of the Volcanoes that we offer to you.
It depends in the skier level for ultimate ski mountaineering people, from moderate to advanced skiers who have touring experience looking for good lines, fresh powder bowls in good places or steep slopes.
Ascending with ski and then skiing down hill, but at the end of these days we’ll rest in hotels or mountain huts and in some places we can relax in hot springs.
You also can combine Ski touring and ski resort off-piste in Northern Patagonia
In our trips you can enjoy the cultural experience within Argentina and Chile, the difference of both countries at each side of the Andes, food and lifestyle. But the most important… the fresh snow!
You can contact us at info@laninexpediciones.com.ar and we can organize your customised ski touring trip as long as you like.
