Two Parks Three Lakes
This hiking traverse can be done in two parts, each part a short trek of 2 days. During January and February we offer the trek as one longer trip.
Trekking Angostura - Traful
We meet in Villa la Angostura. The following day we begin trekking through the forest, along the banks of the river which we follow up the valley to the opening behind Mt Belvedere. From this point we have views of lake Nahuel Huapi and Mt Tronador in the distance. Crossing the range we descend to our camping site.
The following day we cross the same range several times, to then go down through the forest to the shores of Lake Traful, the end of the short route but a very enjoyable trek through a beautiful and seldom walked area.
Length: 2 days / 1 nights in the mountains.
Season: November to March.
Trekking Traful - Meliquina
We meet in the afternoon in Villa Traful to cross the lake by boat and walk about 20 minutes to our camping site, near to the where some locals live. The following day we get up at first light, have breakfast and prepare our backpacks for hiking. At first we follow a stream, going past the headwaters from where the trekking becomes a bit more demanding as we climb through the forest and enjoy views back to where we came from until we reach our second campsite. The view is beautiful for enjoying a night in the open air.
The following day we continue climbing for about 2 hours and once we’ve gained height the hiking becomes easier as we cross the mountain range and descend to Lake Filo HuaHum by midday. We will be met by transport which will take us to Meliquina and then on to the end of the trip in San Martín de los Andes. Length: 2.5 days / 2 nights in the mountains
Season: November to February.
Hiking Traverse Angostura - Traful - Meliquina
Our starting point is San Martín de los Andes, where we will spend the night and then the following day we travel by road via the 7 Lakes to Villa La Angostura, from where we begin walking through the Río Bonito Valley. This will be a long day but our camping spot is located in one of the prettiest parts of this valley.

We will continue to descend to Lake Traful, from where we’ll be taken by vehicle to Villa Traful and cross the lake by boat to a spot where some local people live where we will camp for two nights. From there we continue climbing the mountain range which surrounds Lake Traful and separates us from our destination, Lake Filo Huahum. The change in scenery between the forest and open grasslands is an enjoyable part of the trek, with stunning views and rock formations which contrast sharply with the Patagonian skies.
Our transport will be waiting to take us to Villa Meliquina, where we drive along the shores of the lake on our way to San Martín de los Andes.
Length: 6 days / 5 nights. (5 days / 4 nights on the traverse).
Season: January and February.
